Antep embroidery is one of the oldest type of handicraft specific to Gaziantep. Antep embroidery is a fair handicraft applied to silk cloth with silk fiber which needs along period of hard working. It is produced by the home-based working women in Gaziantep. However, due to individual (non-associated) production, there are no quality standarts for the handicrafts. Single-type Antep embroidery far from following the fashion trend and certain quality standards can not compete with decorative cheap and assorted machine-made home textile products. As a result, Antep embroidery has started loosing it's economical value which resulted in decrease in the interest of the new generation on learning this art and even buying it. For reasons mentioned above, it is a communal duty to protect the Antep embroidery art from vanishing. In order to keep it alive for the upcoming generations, it is important to withdraw young women's interest on the Antep embroidery art which is a reflection of the community history.

It is well known that handicrafts have significant contribution to the economy of the countries which have high touristic income. Although Gaziantep is a rich city with regard to handicrafts, it can not be returned to economy sufficiently.

How Can You Get Antep Embroidery?

The current system in marketing Antep embroidery is taking place through women called middle-women. Middle-women provide communication in between home-based working producer women and the trousseau stores. An other way to have Antep embroidery is to reach home based working women who recognised them. As it is seen, it is not easy to reach these embroideries even if they are appreciated. Because of the above reasons, usage and marketing of Antep embroidery art is not at a level that it is desired. We believe that this problem can be solved by establishment of a co-operation.
